Welcome to WHEA
Serving Grades 6-12

The Essence of Project Based Learning (PBL):
“Seeing something once is better than hearing about it a hundred times.”
—Japanese Proverb
WHEAPCS is a nationally recognized laboratory school serving as a “magnet” for science-focused, outdoor, hands-on education. It features large-scale, long-term, projects that meet or exceed performance demands of traditional “standards based” education. The program works best for students seeking to challenge themselves in a self-directed, science-focused learning environment. The curriculum is writing intensive and college preparatory, but “Can-Do” attitude almost always outshines innate ability. WHEAPCS is Hawaii’s first charter high school.

If you're an educator, Aloha Kai Tours can accommodate up to 80 of your students plus chaperones. We offer mini-lessons in marine and environmental science taught by student docents. Aloha Kai serves nearly 2,000 visiting students, parents, and teachers every year. WHEA was selected by Blue Ribbon Schools to present Aloha Kai as a "2005 Best Practice" at a conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in December of 2005.
